The concept of Acupuncture is to balance energy. By puncturing certain points along the meridians or pathways of energy, balance can be restored. The needles are totally different to injection needles, the sensation is more like the pick of a thorn. It is very safe and works well with other medicines. It is extraordinary in that things will often respond to Acupuncture when all else fails.
FERTILITY TREATMENT Acupuncture is very effective as a sole fertility treatment or alongside IVF. I suggest 4-6 months treatment on a weekly basis to gain the best possible chance before starting IVF. Through it we can deal with infertility blockages, toxicity, decreased ovulation, irregular cycles, poor endometrial lining as well as stress, emotional/physiological issues, medical issues and nutrition and lifestyle. Although acupuncture is my specialty I find it combines very effectively with homeopathy medicine for even greater results. Ideally having acupuncture on a regular basis even once a week ongoing and the homeopathy is very effective. I monitor the progress and may change some homeopathic remedies from time to time. This combination is very effective as a stand-alone treatment or in preparation and right through IVF and up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. See Homeopathy page for more specific details on the combination of Acupuncture and Homeopathy Fertility Programme that I use.
ACUPUNCTURE AND PREGNANCY Because Acupuncture is such a safe medicine it is ideal for all pregnancy related issues such as miscarriage prevention, morning sickness, oedema, backache, sciatica, pelvic strain, placenta pravea, breech position, insomnia, tiredness etc. as well as other discomforts such as sinusitis, influenza, asthma, physical injuries and stress of working etc. A randomized trial was carried out in a maternity teaching hospital in Adelaide, Australia in 2000 involving 593 women less than 14 weeks pregnant with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and dry retching. They were randomized into 3 groups: traditional acupuncture, sham acupuncture, or no acupuncture. Treatment was administered weekly for 4 weeks. The results showed that women receiving traditional acupuncture reported less nausea throughout the trial and improved as the weeks went on. The conclusion they came to is that acupuncture is an effective treatment for women who experience morning sickness. It is also effective on all other pregnancy related illnesses as mentioned above. It is also supportive in the latter stages of pregnancy as it helps to promote easy labour and is helpful in feeding problems and other issues after the birth.

Acupuncture and Sport Injury
Acupuncture is a very effective, safe treatment for sport injury. By using specific points with cupping, electro magnet lamp or moxibustion, acupuncture can speed up recovery in a safe and easy way. It also works well with other treatments and I usually combine it with homeopathy. With recurring sport injuries one has to look at the deeper cause and the acupuncture approach is such an excellent treatment, for example, I had a guy come in with recurring quad injury and on checking the specific areas of discomfort I discovered that it was along the stomach meridian which runs down the front of stomach on both sides and right down the thigh and the legs as far as the toes, so on inquiring I found that he also suffered stomach problems and without addressing that he would be forever having recurring injuries while the underlying deficiency and weakness was there yet by treating both problems simultaneously he recovered very quickly and continues with his sport without any recurrence, which explains the amazing benefits of the acupuncture approach of treating the 'cause' as well as the symptom.
